Luna Is A Bep : Documentary Film l 2020
Role: Director and Editor
It’s a short documentary about an Indie rapper in Hong Kong, stage named Luna Is A Bep. The movie describes her music career at the Hong Kong indie scene, and it shows how she became inspired to write a political song about the protest in Hong Kong.
I was in shock after witnessing, from abroad, Hong Kong anti-government protests which had been going on since June 2019 and resulted in consistent escalating chaos and violence. However, somehow it really caught my attention and curiosity on the situation. At the time, I had just finished my first Hong Kong project, called Myself Identity : Voices from Hong Kong.
But the endless protests kept my mind focused on Hong Kong’s society, which led me to start my second Hong Kong project. Then I found an interesting article about Luna Is A Bep, on the personal way she addresses protests in her political songs. Luckily, I was able to contact her through social media. Then, in January 2020, I visited Hong Kong to meet Luna and start this documentary movie.
